Chicago’s best landscapers create displays that gardeners can emulate and create a yard that’s the envy of the whole neighborhood! The 2014 theme for this annual show is Do Green, Do Good, with unique and practical ideas for novice green thumbs through expert gardeners, highlighting the latest plants and ideas from nationally-known designers.

Large or small, front yard, back patio, raised-bed vegetable or balcony – the inspired show is a visual shopping trip of ideas for transforming any green space into one that’s beautiful, enjoyable and memorable. From activities for kids, how-to instruction for adults and a marketplace filled with garden tools and must-haves, the Chicago Flower & Garden Show offers realistic tips that anyone can learn from, take home and use.

2014 Show Highlights

An expanded Kids Activity Garden with programming on plants, bugs, soil and more. The activities are so engaging and fun that kids don’t even realize how much they’re learning.

Garden Gourmet’s live stage features famous chefs demonstrating how garden delights can become delectable dishes.

The Marketplace is a shoppers’ paradise, with more than 70 vendors offering useful home-and-garden products and flowers for purchase.

Tablescapes provide inspiration for whimsical, fun and imaginative entertaining décor indoor and out.

Enrich your inner shutterbug through the popular photography competition, presented in a gallery-like setting and honoring photographers both amateur and professional.

Escape to the warm tropics of the Regenstein Small Mammal-Reptile House on a tour led by a zoo horticulturist and an animal expert. Discover how the zoo exhibits are adorned with many of the same plants you may have in your home-but on a magnified scale to fill the tropical, lush habitats of animals like sloths, snakes and dwarf crocodiles. This exclusive program allows attendees to enjoy a sneak peak of the exhibit before it opens to the public for the day.

Making their debut on the Auditorium’s Landmark Stage, Houston Ballet brings their magical production of Aladdin. A tale of love, trickery and triumph, Aladdin tells the story of a young marketplace boy who becomes part of a whirlwind adventure with romance, unbelievable riches, love at first sight, treachery, and a magical lamp.

Enjoy a continental breakfast at Lincoln Park Zoo’s Regenstein Center for African Apes while getting an insider’s perspective from the Zoological Manager of Primates. Participants will learn fun facts about chimpanzees and gorillas, while discovering stories about some of the zoo’s animals. After breakfast, there will be a chance for an exclusive viewing of the chimpanzees and gorilla toddlers with their moms before the building opens to the public. The Zoological Manager will answer questions and explain some of the ape behavior participants witness during the event.

Fun fact: This is the apes most active time of day.

Sunday March 23: Philippine Celebrate

Celebrate our city’s rich, cultural diversity with this performance series featuring a lively afternoon of music, dance, colorful costumes, authentic cuisine, and local folk artists from a different community each week.
